I’ve had a bit of time on my hands over the Christmas period so found myself surfing the internet examining the performance of our political representatives.
If that doesn’t sound like much fun, let me just say that I was eating mince pies and listening to a funny lecture at the same time. Ho ho ho.
I do still have a smile on my face believe me.
Some things I’ve discovered:
- Ashford Borough Council’s website is woeful when it comes to discovering what the borough councillors get up to. It’s also very slow.
- We have an MEP who was born in Buenos Aires. (This is mildly interesting – but seemed fascinating given all the grey information on the European Parliament pages.)
- Nigel Farage has asked over 100 parliamentary questions in the European Parliament in the past year. (I didn’t delve into how constructive the questions actually were.)
- Damian Green (our representative in Westminster) is not rebellious by nature. He has been staunchly loyal to the party whip throughout his political career. You can see how he’s voted on everything ever ever ever here.
- not much else.
In case you’re interested, you too can become enlightened about what they’re up to by reading some of the pages below:
Borough Councillor Steve Wright
County Councillor Andrew Wickham
Member of Parliament Damian Green
Members of the European Parliament for South East England: MEPs
I won’t be drawn on my personal views as to whether they are or are not doing a good job. My role through this blog is merely to provide the information so that readers can make up their own minds.
If you would like to write to any of them, I’d recommend the WritetoThem website which practically writes letters for you.
Thank goodness there aren’t any pictures of parish councillors (who all behave impeccably).
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
