PARISH HEADLINES – 10

imageI was unable to attend the parish council meeting ten days ago (due to missing the cross channel ferry) so these are the recollections of others who were there:

  • the proposed offroad cycle path along the River Stour between Wye and Ashford was discussed at length. Councillors were generally supportive of the scheme but there were concerns about where the path should enter the village. In the end councillors decided on a route joining up with Long’s Acre rather than the more direct route into the children’s playing field. Councillors also decided to recommend a compacted gravel surface similar to that used on the path between Chartham and Canterbury. For more details on the cycle path please see this map of the proposed route: 130814cycleroutelayout
  • councillors expressed gratitude to those who have been raising money for a multi use games area (MUGA) in the village. Sport England have recently approved  a grant of over £30,000 to the Wye MUGA. The project is therefore moving ahead and construction on the village hall playing field will hopefully begin in the next few months. There was a celebratory game of rounders on the village green on August 18th (20-26 players turned up). You can view the planning application for the MUGA here (quoting reference 13/00864/AS).
  • there is to be a design exhibition and workshop looking at Taylor Wimpey’s proposals for Wye1. This is likely to take place on September 21.
  • the parish council has received legal documents pertaining to the transfer of Churchfield Green to the village. These have been sent back to Ashford for amendment.
