I couldn’t attend last week’s parish council meeting so these are the recollections of others who were there:

  • the parish council is to write a response to Imperial College to let them know that we are still considering the Wye3 masterplans. Following the well-attended public meeting last month it was decided that we should take further professional advice.
  • it was decided to support Imperial College’s application to remove the condition in the Kempe Centre deeds that would have prevented the creation of a free school on the site. However it was decided that this condition should remain in place for the surrounding road and carpark.
  • the planning application for the Naccolt brickworks will be considered by Ashford planning committee on July 17. The council is also looking to contract professional advice on this application.
  • the village’s application to have the Green registered as a Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Field and to thereby take over its maintenance from Ashford Borough Council has been accepted by Fields in Trust and supported by Ashford Borough Council. The matter is now in the hands of ABC’s legal team.
  • the new waste contract is due to begin on Thursday July 11th.
  • the parish clerk is proceeding with the Multi Use Games Area planning application (subsequent to the parish council meeting we have heard that ABC have made a £6000 grant to the project).
  • there have been multiple thefts from the village allotments (80 items from 16 different plotholders). (This is likely to have an effect on our insurance premiums as theft from each plot  is logged separately.)
  • the small village hall will have its roof renewed over the summer.
  • the opening of the Chilham to Godmersham cycle path was noted along with some concerns about the quality of the surface.
  • the Wye Allotment Holders Association is to hold a meeting (probably on July 17) to review the status of the organisation.
  • 18 Dutch clerks, on a visit to the UK to see how we do things here, are to attend the parish council meeting on September 5th.
