Hopefully some Wye residents will know by now that there’s a children’s fayre this Sunday at the village hall and on the surrounding recreation fields.

There’s going to be a mobile climbing wall, some bouncy castles, a football challenge, table tennis, air hockey, and something called a bungee run which sounds incredibly exciting and potentially dangerous (!) – just as it should be to wrest today’s youth from their computer screens.

Wye’s Children’s Playing Field Charity ( is using the event to promote the charity but also to discover, through informal consultation, how the charity should spend its money in the future. (The charity has money for recreational and leisure facilities for Under-18s in Wye.)

The purpose of this article is to make a small plea to all readers to help create a buzz about the event. Today’s youth are understandably cynical and sceptical. Anything branded ‘charity’ is deemed somehow of less worth to things branded O2, Vodafone, Apple etc.

So please.. if you come across any children in the next few days, just ask them if they’re going to the fayre on Sunday at 2 pm. They’ll be sorry if they miss it!
